"I must stop Christmas from coming, but HOW?"Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Anyone whom has ever read the story, seen the animated cartoon, or the live-action remake will hearken to this words with some amusement. A town in preparation for Christmas Tide with trimming and trappings for festive and merrymaking. A sour and vengeful creature on stopping the merriment. The crime of the century.
This is the premise. An unthinkable crime for its time in 1950. Who would dare to do this, moreover how would dare to interrupt a holiday?
"Your a rotter, Mr. Grinch!" Lyrics by Dr. Seuss; Song by Thurl Ravenscroft
Well, someone dared. Our home was burgled on Christmas Day. Fortunately, the gifts were not harmed, but valuables were taken and the home was placed in shambles. It meant cleaning up and repairing instead of merrymaking. It meant drying tears and keeping tempers in check. It meant summing the Police and filling out reports. Filing proof of claims. And a host of other mundane tasks instead of merrymaking.
But in this, the burglars failed to achieve on goal: They failed to stop Christmas.
"IT CAME WITHOUT PRESENTS?!Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Christmas did come. And will come. We are shaken but have not forgot the meaning. We have replaced one or two items for our son, noting Santa Claus heard his plight and answered. We have celebrated the Christmas with music, food, joy, and laughter. Those items which were taken are just that...items. Transitory bits of pleasure, but not joy.
So, sorry Mr. Grinch, you did not achieve your goal. But, we have a place at our table for dinner tonight if you wish?
